MODERN ART MUSEUM

Our tour starts in the heart of the historical town of Stellenbosch, at the Rupert Museum. This modern art museum is set amongst picturesque vineyards and oak trees on the banks of the Eersterivier. We will begin with introductions, safety procedures, coffee/tea/juice, before being taken on a guided tour through the gallery.

The Rupert Museum showcases the unique private art collection of Anton and Huberte Rupert and houses over 350 works. These works can be regarded as the premier collection of contemporary South African art from the period 1940 to 1970, including works by the likes of Maggie Laubser, Irma Stern, Alexis Preller, Walter Battiss, Elza Dziomba, Jean Welz, JH Pierneef, Lippy Lipshitz, Moses Kotler, Anton van Wouw and Coert Steynberg.

In addition, there are also major European works by leading sculptors such as Auguste Rodin and Käthe Kollwitz, as well as French tapestries by Jean Lurçat.

Going since 1692, Spier is one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms, with a fascinating history and a legacy that the owners never take for granted. Today the farm has a modern, conscious energy. Focused on art and good farming, Spier is about farm-to-table food and accoladed wines. RUSTENBERG WINES

INCLUDED IN PACKAGE 2

SCHOONGEZICHT GARDEN & BRAMPTON BULL PENS ART STUDIO

Rustenberg Wine Estate is one of the oldest farms in the Cape, dating back to 1682. Peter Barlow bought the farm in 1941 and today his son Simon and grandson Murray are running the farm, along with both of their wives Rozanne and Tammy – a true family owned and run business.

Here we will taste superb Rustenberg wines before going for a relaxed stroll in the Schoongezicht Garden - a magical place surrounded by vineyards, green pastures and the majestic Simonsberg mountain as a backdrop. The historic garden was restored by Rozanne: the old tennis court transformed into a labyrinth; the swimming pool turned into a lily pond and the charming pergola, originally built by John X Merriman, still part of this piece of heaven.

From there we will wander to the delightful little studio, BRAMPTON BULL PENS ART STUDIO. This is the workspace of Maritza Breitenbach, residing artist, writer and sculptor.

Maritza gets her inspiration from nature and her beautiful surroundings, working with different mediums and sizes. We will enjoy a last glass of wine with this truly inspiring artist, taking us through the sculpting process and showcasing her work.

Rustenberg and Brampton Bull Pens Art Studio were included in the Woordfees 2019 programme - click here to view the video.

AUTOGRAPH GIN

INCLUDED IN PACKAGE 3

SUCCESS IS WHEN YOUR SIGNATURE BECOMES AN AUTOGRAPH...

This handcrafted African dry gin, made in a distillery in the heart of Stellenbosch, is a product exclusively created by Matt Beech – one of the youngest mixologists in the country. Matt required the perfect spot for everything to do with his craft gin: from the botanicals grown in the yard, to Zoëy (the potstill!), to the fabulous bar and lounge space that invite guests to linger longer … and longer … and longer!
Until the next “perfect spot” is calling: lunch at PANE E VINO, which is located only a few shops down the street. Italian hospitality is incomparable - so it’s not surprising that patrons of Pane E Vino (meaning “Bread & Wine”) arrive as guests and leave feeling like part of the family. The warmth and enthusiasm of the Dalla Cia “clan” create an atmosphere, which quite simply ensures that you feel as if you’re stepping into the Italian home of a long-lost friend or relative. And of course, no traditional Italian meal is complete without a Grappa, which is distilled onsite in the unique boutique Dalla Cia Grappa Distillery. No matter how it is enjoyed, Grappa is the ultimate digestive!
